Patients with peripheral neuropathy symptoms must take care to reduce discomfort in their feet. As some of the main symptoms of familial amyloid polyneuropathy include numbness, tingling, and burning sensations, patients and their caregivers should be diligent when choosing footwear.

While diabetic footwear may offer the features that neuropathy patients need, many brands sacrifice style for function. For those who want to step outside in style and comfort, I have compiled a list of five of the most stylish shoes for those with peripheral neuropathy.

Benefits of diabetic shoes

Shoes that offer extra room, cushioning, and support provide comfort for patients who have peripheral neuropathy in their feet. My mother-in-law’s foot discomfort because of peripheral neuropathy requires her to wear padded slippers. For outdoor wear, she alternates between New Balance diabetic footwear and her household slippers. She opts to wear her slippers outside when she experiences extreme burning sensations in her feet.

Neuropathy footwear may be designed to accommodate the addition of gel insoles for further comfort and arch support. Patients should be mindful of the shape of their arches when trying out neuropathy footwear. These shoes offer specific designs for particular foot types. Most importantly, patients must be comfortable while staying true to their style.

5 stylish neuropathy shoes

Orthofeet Coral

These women’s Orthofeet casual shoes look similar to the trendy Allbirds casual shoes and Nike Flyknit running shoes. Consisting of a stretchable, synthetic upper, the Orthofeet Coral shoes feature orthotic support, air cushioning, and an orthotic-friendly design.

Dunham Bryce Oxfords

The Bryce Oxford by Dunham is a lightweight, flexible leather dress shoe with timeless design. These shoes come in black or brown with removable Ortholite insoles. For those who seek a classic look without sacrificing function, these shoes boast a breathable design that might help patients prone to burning sensations in the feet.

Dr. Comfort Ruk chukka boots

The Dr. Comfort Ruk chukka boots are designed with a lightweight sole, high-quality, oiled leather and suede uppers, and a wide toe box. The shoe also features firm heel support and removable insoles. These shoes are suitable for both casual wear and formal occasions.

New Balance 880v9

These running shoes offer a sporty look for women with milder peripheral neuropathy symptoms. This shoe features a breathable, synthetic mesh upper. Part of the New Balance NBRx Performance Foot Health Collection, these shoes may be eligible for the Medicare reimbursement program.

Balenciaga Triple S trainers

For the more fashion-conscious patients, the Balenciaga Triple S trainers offer a trendy alternative to the average neuropathy shoe. While not specifically branded a neuropathy shoe, the Triple S trainers feature an expanded toe box that might benefit patients with peripheral neuropathy symptoms. These shoes may best be worn with neuropathy insoles to relieve pressure on the feet. They offer the good mix of style and function to the fashion-forward patient with a bigger shoe budget.

I recently bought a pair of Joya Ortholite to help relieving the burning sensation in my feet, but it has not helped.
Which shoes do you recommend. I try to walk 10,000 steps a day but my feet are burning like fire.
Thanks for your advice.

When I wear any enclosed shoe (other than a flip flop) my feet feel like my feet are about to bust out of my shoes. Hate wearing shoes, but have to when I go anywhere in the winter.

This may not help, but I'm looking for shoes myself. I am diabetic with peripheral neuropathy in my feet and starting to feel it and/or arthritis in my hands. My doctor told me that the two things people should spend the most money on is good shoes and their mattress.
